Further insights into my artistic work – especially albums I produced and co-wrote
Johannes consistently pursues his own musical vision. In 2020, his studio debut Non Più was released via Block Opera, followed by live versions of three songs from the album featuring The Mars Volta drummer Philomène “Philo” Tsoungui and Thorsten “Hazy” Haas on bass. In 2023, the instrumental album Heller Tag was created with the band “Conic Rose” — a result of improvised jam sessions with Konstantin Döben (trumpet), Silvan Strauss (drums), Bertram Burkert (guitar), and Franziska Aller (bass).
To put the music of Berlin based band Conic Rose into a common formula is almost hopeless. Depending on your perspective, you could call it indie pop, jazz, ambient, electronica or a soundtrack that evokes its own images. The entirely self-recorded and -produced debut album „Heller Tag” was released in February 2023 and has garnered significant interest and airplay from Gilles Peterson, BBC, MOJO (4*), Jazzwise or Jazzthing.

During this creative phase, a musical exchange of ideas with beatmaker and multi-instrumentalist Salomon Appiah began to take shape, resulting in the Earthbound EP — the first cornerstone in their collaborative work on a full-length studio album.
Now based in his adopted hometown of Braunschweig, Johannes Arzberger created jazzy loops, Eurorack-soaked soundscapes, dusty noise textures, and melodic sketches in his own studio. These were taken up by Salomon Appiah and Mike Maciejewski and together fused into a musical unit of broken beats, lo-fi hip-hop, and urban jazz: Rebirth.
